Urban Ministries of Wake County is a wonderful organization that provides basic necessities for people living in poverty. With 35 years and counting, its mission is to engage the community to serve and advocate on behalf of those affected by poverty by providing food and nutrition, promoting health and wellness, and by laying the foundations of home. Urban Ministries does a variety of helpful things for the community, such as providing a food pantry (with fresh produce right out of the organization’s incredible community garden), crisis services, a health clinic (with an affordable pharmacy connected), and supporting a transitional women’s shelter.
Urban Ministries is having its 11th annual Stone Soup fundraising event on November 12th from 5:30-7:30 PM. It will be conveniently located right in most of our backyards at NC State in the brand new Talley Student Union at 2610 Cates Avenue.
More about the Stone Soup Fundraising Event
“Stone Soup brings our community together to provide the most basic necessities of life – food, medical care, and housing – to 100,000 of our Wake County neighbors living in poverty. The event is fun, the soup is delicious, and the cause is extraordinary!” There will be soup to eat and soup to buy all in support of Urban Ministries.
If that did not sell you, some of the top chefs in this area will be cooking up all different kinds of warm soups, stews, and chilis. There are at least 10 different soups in the lineup, from black bean soup to pumpkin chowder.
We will be supporting and donating to Urban Ministries while also supporting our stomachs by purchasing at least a quart of soup. Will you join us?
