Trophy Brewing Fundraising Event SUCCESS!

Saturday was a day of firsts for A Place at the Table. As a start-up nonprofit, we are pretty accustomed to firsts. We try something, and like the old saying goes, if at first we don’t succeed, we dust ourselves off and try again.

While we’ve been raising money for A Place at the Table for a little over a year now, this past Saturday’s event at Trophy Brewing marks the first time we’ve ever, as a group, sat down together and made a plan for how we could raise money to open our doors by getting our friends, families and community members out to support us at a major event. You may wonder then, what was the purpose of our last two pop-up events if not to raise funds? Well, to put it simply, awareness. We wanted to get our name out into the community and to demonstrate how our model can and will work here in Raleigh. But those events, while hugely successful, were not intended to raise funds. This past Saturday, however, was a different story.

It was our first “real” fundraiser. It was our first cornhole tournament. It was our first time partnering with food trucks (shout out to Pho Nomenal Dumplings, Qspresso and Sweet Stacey Cakes!). It was our first silent auction. It was our first 50/50 raffle. It was our first time using the word “fundraising” in our marketing collateral. It was a risk we took, and it was worth it. Our preliminary estimates indicate that more than 250 of you amazing souls joined us and we successfully raised almost $9,000 – a huge step towards opening our doors!

If you weren’t able to make it to the event, you missed some DELICIOUS food… and killer brews (Thanks, Trophy!)… but you also missed a couple of updates from our brand new Board Chair, Sean Degnan, co-owner of Buku, and Executive Director Maggie Kane. Sean announced that he, along with Maggie and others, has been searching diligently downtown for a space for us to open our brick and mortar. And every day, we get closer and closer to finding “the one” — a place where we’ll be able to serve all people a dignified meal in a welcoming restaurant environment. A Place at the Table also announced how proud we are to have received such generous donations from local businesses all across the Triangle for our silent auction. We have included a list of donors at the end of this blog post – thank you one million times over!

Finally, we want to thank you, our loyal readers, supporters, friends, and family for taking the time out of your weekend to come join us for a beer, or a meal, or just for general merriment last Saturday. It truly shows us how much the Raleigh community believes in our cause and we can’t wait to open up our doors so we can begin to give back in a way that is bigger than ourselves. And with your help, we will do this soon. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!

Keep your eyes and ears open for information about our next event and any updates *LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION* that may pop up in the meantime!

We’ll see you around the table soon!
