November Newsletter

Oh my, boy is time flying. Where do I even begin?

What have we been up to? In October we had a fabulous fundraising event at Trophy Brewing Company. We cannot thank Trophy for their hospitality in opening its doors to over 200 people on one of the busiest nights of the fall. We also owe a huge thank you to Pho Nomenal Dumplings, Qspresso, Sweet Stacey Cakes, and DJ Triple B for their donation of delicious food and great music. I think all of us are dreaming of the empanadas, cubanos, and Milky Way cupcakes. Mmmmm… Thank you to our awesome volunteer group through Church on Morgan and for our tirelessly supportive volunteers that make each event happen. Lastly, but certainly not least thank you to YOU. Thank you to the hundreds of people that came out, bid on silent auction items, drank several Trophy Wife beers, and even gave an extra donation. You helped us EXCEED our goal of $10,000!

This was a turning point for us. $10,000 is the most we have ever raised at a single event and several of us (mostly me) did not think we could do it. After everyone had gone home, I sat at Trophy with a few friends reflecting on the event. It was that moment, I said out loud, “This is going to happen”.  A Place at the Table is needed, important, and a part of this Raleigh community already. The fundraiser at Trophy proved that to me. Thank you for being a part of creating this space and being a part of making a place at the table possible for everyone.

Now what?

  • Sean Degnan, co-owner of Buku, took on a new role with A Place at the Table. He is our current Board Chair. We can’t thank Allison Connors enough for leading us this past year and half.
  • We may have found a location! We are not 100% sure it is our space, but we are hopeful. As soon as we know more, we promise to keep you updated.
  • We were honored to have been chosen by SFW Agency as a recipient for free marketing services during a nationwide 24-hour marketing blitz called CreateAthon. They have provided us with a few branding options. We are also working with a local marketing firm called Tabletop Media Group who has graciously donated their services to us pro bono. Stay tuned for a rebrand coming up in the next few months.

When is our next event?  On Giving Tuesday, November 29th, A Place at the Table personally invites you to come celebrate the Holidays with us. We know you all will have post Thanksgiving turkey food comas and not want to eat leftover turkey again, have bought all there is to buy on Black Friday, shopped local on Small Business Saturday, and explored each internet site on Cyber Monday. Why not join us for cocktails, appetizers, good people, and Holiday cheer on a Tuesday!? We will all be in ugly holiday sweaters, we promise, come join us! 530-730 at Bu•ku in downtown Raleigh.

Everyday we are thankful for your continued thoughts, prayers, and kind words. As we get closer and closer to opening our doors, we know we could not do this without you.  Please always feel free to reach out if you need anything or have anything to share with us.

I am looking forward to seeing you all at the Giving Tuesday Table on November 29th!

Peace to you as we all enter the holiday season,

Maggie Kane

Executive Director
