If you live in Raleigh, there’s a good chance you’ve heard about or met one of our city’s most renowned chefs, Ashley Christensen. And if you haven’t eaten at one of her esteemed restaurants, you’re truly missing out. Ashley is a James Beard award-winning chef who has dedicated her life to creating a vibrant food community here in Raleigh through the establishment of several local eateries as well as through her work as a philanthropist.
This past week, Ashley took part in a 263-mile bike ride across the state of California to help end childhood food insecurity with No Kid Hungry. Prior to her ride, Ashley raised more than $75,000 in support of No Kid Hungry and we want to take the next month to celebrate Ashley, her restaurants, and her dedication to ending food insecurity in our country. Thank you, Ashley, for your hard work and all of the (literal) energy you put in every day to making our city and this country a better place.
For the next 5 Fridays, we will feature one of Ashley’s amazing Raleigh restaurants. Please join us in patronizing her restaurants this month in support of her.
For our first AC Feature Friday, we’ve chosen Poole’s Diner, a perfect place for a special occasion, romantic date, or fun night out with your friends. Our favorite menu items include the macaroni and cheese (ALWAYS get the macaroni and cheese) and the fried green tomatoes. The chalkboard menu is always rotating, so it’s unlikely you’ll ever get the same thing twice when you visit. Added bonus: the manager Lesley is a true doll. Say hello to her if you get a chance! —and don’t forget dessert!
