Last Wednesday, a few of us from A Place at the Table had the pleasure of meeting the wonderful and passionate team at Benevolence Farm. Located in Graham, NC, Benevolence Farm is providing opportunities for women leaving prison to live and work on a farm where they grow food, nourish self, and foster community. We had a blast meeting the staff and exploring the site that a group of wonderful women will be residing and working with soon!
Abby, the Fundraising and Admin Assistant, and Matt, the Farm Manager, gave us an hour long tour around the beautiful land they have. They showed us the house where the women will live in community together. If you think your house is great, please go see theirs! After the fabulous house tour, they showed us the farm! We heard stories of what the future holds for Benevolence on and off the farm. We even learned how to grow our own Chanterelle mushrooms out of a tree log. Who would have thought we would learn a trade and see an incredible nonprofit all in one day?
We are thankful for our new friends at the farm and cannot wait to work in collaboration with them as we get closer to opening. Thanks, Benevolence, for all the work you do!
