A few of us were able to visit the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina last week. The wonderful Amy Beros gave us a detailed tour and rundown of the many things the Food Bank does. Not only were we in awe of the thousands of pounds of food a week that is given to agencies, but we were stunned by the amazing things the Food Bank does for children in Central and Eastern North Carolina. Since we are wrapping up our #FeatureFriday month focused on children, we thought we would tell you more about how necessary the Food Bank’s work with our special kiddos are.
Kids Meals & More is the umbrella for three main programs the Food Bank runs: Kids Cafe, Weekend Power Pack, and Kids Summer Meals. The goal of all these programs is to ensure that kids are eating enough to be successful in their day and throughout the rest of their lives. Run throughout 34 counties in North Carolina, the Kids Cafe program helps provide hot meals, nutrition education, and academic support. The Weekend Power Pack Program provides backpacks each Friday to children who may need the extra meals over the weekend. Lastly, but certainly not least, praise God for the Kids Summer Meals. While school is out, so is the Kids Cafe. With Kids Summer Meals, students receive meals each day throughout the summer.
