Last Tuesday, April 24th, A Place at the Table held our Faith Leaders’ Breakfast. A big thank you goes to Hillyer Memorial Christian Church on Hillsborough Street for allowing us to use their facilities and hosting the event! The event was very successful, and we had a great time! We had lots of delicious food and coffee for the morning, and many people came together to learn more about A Place at the Table. We had faith leaders from all over the Triangle area at our event, and had over 45 in attendance. We realize that our mission resonates strongly with almost all faith communities, so we wanted to reach out and make sure they feel they have a place at our table, in the planning and building of our cafe and also longer term in staffing the cafe with diners and volunteers.
We had many positive outcomes from the day–several suggestions for locations that might be available now, an idea for better communication with faith communities by designating liaisons, ideas for other locations in which to pop-up our cafe before we have a permanent location, many new friends, and lots of wonderful conversation between people who may or may not have known each other before.
Some could not make it that day, and we probably have missed many, so if you have a faith community, and you don’t think it knows about APATT, let us know. We can have coffee or a meal with a representative. We can also present to any committees or the whole community about what we are trying to accomplish to see whether it resonates with them, and if so, how they can be involved.
The food for the event was amazing, and we are so grateful for everyone who donated food for this event! Rise Donuts provided us with donuts for the event, Starbucks gave us over 100 cups of coffee, as well as some pastries, The Produce Box provided us with lots of blueberries, and AJ’s Bakery made us some delicious homemade Pineapple and Coconut Buns. Thank you to everyone that donated food to this event and made this event possible!
Thank you to our board members and volunteers who attended and assisted with the event. From
putting together egg casseroles, assisting in setting up and prepping all of the food, directing attendees, and cleaning up, we really appreciate your hard work! We could not have ran the event without you, and thank you for supporting A Place at the Table.
